Nyumbani Prison Reentry Program ("IN-YUM-BA-NEE") "Home Coming" in Kiswahili

The War on Drugs resulted in the disproportionate rate of arrests in African American and Latinx communities. Those formerly and currently incarcerated and their families continue to be adversely impacted in a multitude of ways.

The Nyumbani Program was created in 2018 as a response to the need for services in the African American and communities of color to deliver community-defined and culturally affirming practices.

We meet formerly incarcerated individuals and family members where they currently are in life and assist in the improvement of health status, quality of life, increased income, increased employment, and reduced recidivism.

Nyumbani is to make the clients be self-determined, meet where they're at, come up with a case plan of what they want, and link them to resources to achieve success. Since its inception, individuals have been returned to their communities in a healthy way
